A father torn apart
A son forever scarred
Two men trying to connect when their only link to one another has been tragically severed...

Ethan Harrington's innocence was lost seven years ago when his mother took her own life. Forced to grow up in a hurry, he quickly learns to build a wall around his heart, vowing to never let it be hurt again. Left alone with his controlling and abusive father in an isolated farmhouse, Ethan struggles to live among the shattered remains of a family that was never functional to begin with.

A kindhearted doctor, a beautiful girl, and a caring nanny all love him in different ways, but Ethan, now sixteen and still ravaged by his mother's suicide, turns to what he has seen his father take comfort in time and time again - thus giving rise to an inner demon that will not turn him loose.

A story of hope - even in the darkest of times, this is a coming-of-age novel that depicts the sometimes difficult, and oftentimes complex, relationship experienced between fathers and sons when tragedy strikes.

Seasons of Darkness eBook Belinda G Buchanan Reviews

This is the first book I picked up by Belinda G. Buchanan and I'm so glad I did. Her writing is crisp, engaging and flawless. The story pulled me in from the first page and wouldn't let go. I could feel the character's emotions as I read and I couldn't stop turning the pages. Break time at work couldn't come fast enough. Once I finished the book, I was delighted to learn there was more to main character Ethan's life in her book After All Is Said And Done. If you're looking for a gripping, emotional read Seasons Of Darkness is the book.
Season of Darkness is the prequel to After All Is said and done. Everett Harrington has 2 children Renee and Ethan. He is a widower who is trying to raise his children right. He has gone through multiple Nannies due to his drinking. Renee was a very social child who was well beyond her years, and Ethan was more withdrawn especially from his father. Everett’s latest nanny Greta gets along with the children fine and doesn’t say much about the drinking.
Through the story there are flashbacks that Everett and Ethan have about the absent mother/wife the real reason she’s not in the picture. Ethan starts to wonder about things and starts breaking out of his shell. Ethan moves further away from Everett because he is controlling and he beats Ethan when the boy does wrong.
Greta and Everett start to fall in love with each other even though he has a drinking problem and he can’t keep his hands off Ethan, Greta says a lot but doesn’t do a lot about it. The last straw for Ethan was when he wanted to start medical school but his dad wouldn’t let him because he wanted Ethan to run his company. I thought this book was remarkable the way it dug into Ethan’s existence. Read this book to find the mystery of Ethan’s mom. Belinda is such a great author who I’d love to see more from. This book was given to me as a gift for an honest review.
Ethan Harrington grew up to be a troubled man and in Seasons of Darkness we find out why. The read is not comfortable but to understand a character the pieces that make them up tend to have huge gaps of difficult times.

Ethan became the doctor he longed to be and the reason is clearly revealed in the relationship he develops with the doctor that saved him physically and emotionally. Ethan’s father was not only an alcoholic but a child abuser who took his rage out on his son. The stress of his work and the tragic loss of his wife may have pushed Ethan’s father over the edge but his means of control were cruelty and the end justifies the punishment.

As you move through from one chapter to the next you see the picture of a wonderful boy who yearns for love and approval. He tries to please and make sure everyone is cared for but the one person being neglected is Ethan and the toll that takes on him builds to a pressure point that sets the stage for future life altering decisions.

Belinda Buchanan shows every side to her characters which is what makes them so interesting.
Sixteen-year-old Ethan is following in his father’s footsteps. But not career wise, and not by choice.
When life becomes a fragile balancing act between a presentable image and the darkness that torments, Everett Harrington buries himself in his work and hides his feelings – and his fears – in a bottle of scotch. But stuffing yourself in a bottle or a board room is but a temporary fix, and the demons that are hiding eventually show their ugly faces. And with Everett, they showed up as contempt for the son who once was the little boy he so adored.
Everett, apparently, had his life neatly planned out. A solid career, no female distractions, headed for financial success. Single-minded in his career path and his future, he had no room for distractions.
Natalia was more than a distraction, though, and turned everything upside down and inside out. Natalia crept into his bed and into his heart. She twisted Everett Harrington around her little finger. She held him spellbound.
Even when he saw the signs, the instability, the inconsistency, he was helpless against the grip she had on his heart. A grip that tightened and turned to a stranglehold as her sickness worsened. And that grip ultimately rendered him unfeeling, cold and uncaring. Or trying to maintain a façade that he was unfeeling, cold and uncaring.
No man is an island, though, and those neatly contained emotions sometimes burst forth in fits of rage. Everett’s target was his son Ethan.

Seasons of Darkness is Ethan’s journey through his tormented adolescent years. From his mother’s death, and years of abuse, to the realization he possesses the same rage his father does. His young life is laden with tragedy and frustration, and impossible dreams.

Belinda G. Buchanan has masterfully conveyed the misery and agony of mental illness, and its long reaching effects. The scars on the heart, the helplessness felt by loved ones. The pain and emptiness. My heart bled for Ethan, but also for his father, for the sense of despair and helplessness. Pick up a copy, you won’t be disappointed. And when you’re through with Seasons of Darkness, Ethan’s story continues in After All is Said and Done. I’ll be reading it myself.
This is Ms. Buchanan's best work yet. Strong narrative voice and intriguing plot. Loved the ending. Highly recommended for fans of this series. It's good to go back and see how it all started.
I love all of her books!

and then it sure had my attention. I would hate to spoil it for anyone reading i so I'll just say if
any likes soul searching, heart rending story, be sure to read it.
This was a damn good read. This was such a gut wrenching story that you feel it physically. You feel for Everett. It was so hard for him and he struggled. Thank you Belinda G. Buchanan for an excellent read.
